It's still all about the roof....

It's still all about the roof I'm afraid, so I have kept this blog short and sweet, with lots of photo's.
The weather is changing and we are desperate to be water tight. We had been hoping to be water tight by the end of August as we know the weather can be very unpredictable from here on in. We are not far off now, so I hope by the time I post the next blog we will be in the dry.
These photo's are from a few weeks ago, taken very kindly by a friends son, using his drone.

They really do give a good perspective of how the house sits in the plot.
The roof structure is still not complete, but to be ready for the roofers the guys started to to get the sarking board on. Doesn't keep us dry, but gets us closer at least.
It doesn't take long once they get going, unfortunately still not much happening on the other end!

The other end is starting to form and we wander around scratching our heads trying to work out what sort of head room we will have once we are are finished.
The very, very top of the roof ready to be made water tight. You can't see this detail from the ground. We chose this design to maximise the ceiling height inside and minimise the overall all roof height. It has made the roof build a little more complicated and of course with complication comes extra cost, but we think it will be well worth it in the end.
Here it is with its first coat of water proofing and the drainage being installed.
I can barely watch Jack & Jack (yes they are both called Jack, father and son), running up and down the roof! These guys really know what they are doing and the quality of their work is outstanding. We are constantly grateful for all the trades we have on site, they are best of the best.

Perfection. We know this because there is a roof being done across the road from us by another roofing company and let's just say the difference is obvious.
We have just finalised the kitchen, utility/boot room and bar design, even though we started the planning process back in January. Covid messed timings up a bit, but it still took a lot more time and work than expected to get it to this stage. I had expected kitchen and bathroom providers to more creative and proactive, but this was not the case for us. I was conscious that going open plan meant my choices are going to be on show, all of the time, and this certainly added additional pressure to make sure I got it absolutely right, both in terms of the way it looks but also how it it will work in practice.

Here are a few 3D's. The colours we have chosen are not the same as shown in these pictures, we have gone for three F&B colours but unfortunately the kitchen CAD can't replicate them very well, but I think this gives some representation of the look we are going for.
Once we have finished the build and settled back in I plan to come back and write a blog on each of the rooms, providing more details, before and after shots and things we would do differently or highly recommend.
Finally the all of the structure has been built. Now we just need to fill-in the holes and get us water tight.
We are staring to choose finishes so we have been taking trips out to various stone and tile suppliers. On a trip to a tile showroom in Liskard we picked up these samples. The first photo is a potential patio slab. I like the light colour and the black specks could tie them in with the windows and facia colour.
We are thinking of wood porcelain tiles for the ground floor, over the underfloor heating. Finding the right colour is a challenge especially as we also need a range that can make a stair tile. We want to do something different on the floor in the boot room/utility and I quite like the colour tones of this patterned tile and how it sits well with the wood.
We were thrilled to see some slate going on at long last and waterproofing of the roof above the dinning room.
The galvanised steel posts arrived for the back porch and it wasn't long before it started to take shape. The addition of the porch seems to have given back of the house some personality.

Until next time.....

There are many different kinds of branded watches and Adidas is one of the most coolest watches company. These days is getting very much how to remove floor tiles popular in all over the world. I like its color so much and its looks really very cool.
