At last, things are starting to go up...

We are so pleased to be past the digging and demolishing stage and to see our home coming back together again.

Paul got started on the front sections that will make up the front door and large picture window. These are fiddly, time consuming sections because of all the different angles involved. Having these angels make for a lovely aesthetic to look at but definitely a bit of a nightmare when we just wants to get the walls back up as quickly as possible. When they did start to go up it was interesting that the space seemed bigger and not smaller as I had expected it would.
We are currently trying to finalise the window and door order. This should have been a two week process, but we are now in our fourth week, so poor Paul spends lots of time checking back with the window surveyor to ensure everything is millimetre perfect.
Here's Paul in his element, working out all those horrible angles in the sunshine.

With all the activity It wasn't long before they were running low on blocks. Thankfully the building suppliers are almost back to normal and we were stocked up again within 24 hours, but unfortunately invoice No 4 arrived with a few little surprises (unexpected extra's) included, so I decided to bake a batch of my sausage rolls to celebrate the upwards progress and aid our invoice discussions. As always they did the trick and kept everyones spirits up, including ours.
You may recall from my last blog that I had been having sleepless nights over the fact that there was nothing stopping someone going over the edge and falling 3 metres into the garage. I was very relieved to see that immediately the blocks arrived Paul had thrown up a wall to provide some protection. At the moment there is only Paul and Jim on site so this wall will suffice, but once we start to build the roof and have more contractors on site Paul will put up some further barricading to keep those unfamiliar with the site safe.

I had to laugh when I started to look through my photo's to use in this weeks blog and realised that I had taken dozens of photo's of the front entrance area. I must admit, I do love it and seem to be constantly drawn to it. Once the upper floor goes on it will get even more interesting. I have chosen just four of the dozens of photo's I have taken to share with you here.
Once the blocks arrived things started moving along at quite a pace and by the middle of the week Paul and Jim were building the upper parts of the walls from trestles and preparing the top of the outer walls for the steels.
It wasn't long before our first two doorways appeared. It's amazing the things that make me happy these days and a lovely way to end the week.

Below you can see what will be our entrance hall. The first photo shows the view looking from the front door, towards what will be the staircase. The second photo is looking back from the bottom the stairs and the third photo shows the doorways into the guest bedroom (first door) and the master bedroom1 (second door). We plan to have two master's, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. This will future proof it for us as we get older, but also if we do sell, it ensures a vendor won't be put off if they don't like the idea of a master bedroom on the ground floor.
