Not long after I uploaded my last post (Tuesday 14th April) we got that sweet call from Paul our builder to say that he and Jim (his right hand man) would be back on site the following day. They would be travelling seperately and adhereing to all the required distancing rules, but wanted to get back to work. Paul had been constantly monitoring suppliers to see who and when would be suppling and delivering. I cannot tell you how happy we were to get that call and hear that news. Here they are first day back, enjoying the sunshine.

We arrived on site on the Thursday to see that the scaffolding had been completed and an access ladder available to get up and down.

We wasted no time at all and were up that ladder quick sharp to have a look at the views. When our second floor goes on with our Lounge, study and two bedrooms, these will be the views we will have from the various windows. We will have a balcony off the lounge, at the front of the house, overlooking the estuary and this will allow us to see down to Padstow Harbour and all aspects of the Estuary, including the very beautiful Iron Bridge. It wasn't the best light to take photo's, but still the views are stunning as you will see here.

We are introducing many walls, some rendered and some stone faced and I have been thinking about how we will soften all these hard surfaces. I saw these wall flowers while out for my daily lock down exercise, and had to stop and take some photo's as I think they will be perfect to plant along the top of the walls and under the hedge at the front as soon as we are able. We are not going to wait until the building work is completely over to start sorting the garden out. Our plan is to continue to maintain and improve the areas we can get access to and the building work won't disturb.

Here are some other bits of inspiration I found out and about and looking through social media. I love this wall, the colours and the way it's been laid. These grasses are in a planter outside Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant, to colours and movement in the wind was stunning, must have some in our front garden, maybe all around the top of the Garage. I want spindals similar to the ones shown in the photo below, just plain and black, but haven't been able to find a supplier. If you know of anywhere, do let me know.

Our week ended with a our usual virtual get together with our friends "The Binsters". When we started these meetings, they were at 5pm on a Friday for "Sundowner's" and a chat. We very quickly moved to "let's cook dinner together". In last week's blog I mentioned the delicious curry we cooked and ate together, menu and recipies provided my Ali P, and my failure to get any photo's! This week I did a better job and got some photo's.

Ali B, picked this Prawn on the Lawn inspired menu. Prawn on the Lawn is a fabulous restaurant in Padstow, serving the most amazing fish and seafood dishes. The dishes we cooked were taken directly from POTL Menu and can also be found in their very own cook book.

Because Tim can't eat shellfish I had to change the starter from Garlic n Sweet Chilli Prawns to Spice Squid, but other wise we all cooked and ate the same meal together, 10+ of us!

Menu:

Spicy Crispy Squid with Chipotle Dipping Sauce

Vietnamese Monkfish

Baby Gem Salad

Tomato & Tarragon Salad

Spicy Crushed Pototoes

Well that's it for now, until next time......
