It's been a funny week. Our builders really wanted to continue working and they did until about Wednesday and then they ran out of materials.
The site got locked up and that was that. We still walk pass every day to check that everything is ok and I have to say it makes me sad to see it just sat there with nothing going on.
On Friday the Scaffolders turned up and errected scaffolding around the back and sides of the house. I think, they, like so many of us were hoping that life might still go on with some resemblence of normality. Not realising, again like most of us, just how serious things were going to get. Unfortunately it will just sit as it is for now, but at least if we do find a way to continue it is there and ready for the guys to get the roof off. The steel beams for the new floor/roof are also sitting waiting so should be lots of activity once we can get going again.
We did get some good new about our hedging. As you know from previous blogs we were looking at using Portugese Laurel. With everything that is going on, although it is still available the prices have gone through the roof. Our lovely gardener Jane has managed to find us a replacement that we can get delivered pretty much immediately. As you know I was super keen to have something that would be good for the Birds and the Bee's. Jane has come up with Cotoneaster Franchetii. It's very hardy, which of course we need as we are so close to the sea, it is evergreen, lovely flowers for the bee's in May/June time and then lovely red berries for the birds in the winter. We have put and order in for two pallets of plants, between 90/100 cm high as we have over two metres to cover. Not sure when they will be here yet, but keeping fingers crossed in the next couple of weeks, so we can get them in and planted before the weather gets too warm.
Although we can't get on with anything on site I am trying to progress kitchen and bathroom design. Will gather together my idea's and perhaps share with you in the next week or two.
Here's a little reminder of how close the sea we are:
