You know when the packing boxes and the biggest roll of bubble wrap you have ever seen in your life, are delivered, that this is it, no more putting our heads in the sand, we need to get packing!
But where do we start? I don't know about you, but I write a list and then another list! You get the picture.
What makes this move more horrifying than any normal move is that our stuff is going in five different directions, yes five!
1. Skip
2. For Sale/For Free
3. Lock Up
4. Temporary House
5. Storage
First we have to photograph everything we don't need in our temporary house or to come back to the renovated one. Then up load these items to various sites on a "Come and Take for Free" or "For Sale" basis. Not being a techi, this could take some time. The logistics also needs some thinking about and serious coordination because when you put "free" stuff out there the take up for just one item (and we will have many) can be incredible. So managing the enthusiasum can get a bit crazy between doing all the other packing and moving.
While managing operation "Clear Out", any real rubbish will be going straight into the skip which incredibly is already parked on the drive! My husband LOVE's a skip, well actually he would really like a fire pit to burn it all, but given we live quite close to other houses, he has to make do with a skip. I will need to keep an eye on him though, because left to his own devices everything would go in the skip! I digress. While he is skipping, I will be creating a pile of stuff that needs to go to the temporary house or to our lock up. "Lock Up", you ask? Our temporary house is so small and large items like suitcases, garden equipment etc. just won't fit but we will still need to have access to them on a regular basis, so that's where the "Lock Up" comes in.
I probably should mention at this point that the temp house is already furnished, but on a holiday home basis, so we will only need a few extra bits and pieces such as kitchen items, linen etc. to manage for the time we are there.
With all that done we can at long last get down to packing up everthing that will go into storage until the renovation is complete. I am thinking that it will be at this point we make the move into the temp house and then just come up and down to finish the packing up ready for move day and demolition to start.
Now that I have written it down, it doesn't sound that bad. Who am I kidding!
Next time I Blog I will be in the middle of the packing, well thats the plan at this point.
Merry Christmas Everyone
