If the last couple of weeks were all about the roof, then week 35 has definitely been all about the windows and wow what a transformation they have made to the look of the place.

We used a window company from Exeter and the installation team were excellent, even the builders were singing their praises.

It took us ages to find the right windows, it's such a big part of your budget and of course they have a massive effect on the overall look of the finished facades. We knew we wanted dark frames, but also a neutral classic colour. We didn't want to go for the very commonly used Anthracite Grey, so eventually settled for Matt Black and could not be happier with how they look.

We have used a mix of window/door manufacturers, Reynaers and Origin.

Here is a few photo's of the first day of installation, which saw quite a few of the frames go in, including the big six metre doors frames onto the balcony upstairs.

The flat roof process is time consuming and weather dependent so getting completely water tight is taking some time. Heres a few shots of the roof drainage system. These vents bring the water flow off the top roof, onto the flat roof of the dormer and into the "secret" gutter. Can you see the "secret" gutter?

The slate going on at the back of the house has also been a huge transformation. There are lot's of interesting features on the back facade. It means that it is a bit more time consuming to do, but they really do give this facade personality. The old bungalow was so un-interesting from all sides!

When the window installers built the frame for the upstairs doors we did have a moment when we thought they may have got the dimensions wrong. Of course they hadn't, the frame just looked too big for the hole!

We have loved seeing the un-interrupted views from here and was so pleased that the doors didn't spoil the view, in fact the door frames seem to make the view pop even more.

This was the first of the glazing going in. We decided not to put integral blinds in these windows as the glazed area is so small. They need something, maybe shutters?

We also decided not to put integral blinds in the big doors either. Because of the height and the angle there is plenty of privacy so we felt non were needed.

The first fix also got going this week. It's amazing how seeing these things going in makes it feel more like a home again.

Here is some non-technical but very practical planning for the wall position of one of the up-stairs en-suites.

A serious bit of lead ready for the kitchen doors.

The back door. We love it, not sure our Post Man will though when he see's where the letter box is!

It was Tim's birthday, so we took a little break on the Thursday and went for a very decadent late afternoon meal at the amazing Emily Scott's overlooking the fabulous Watergate Bay. The glorious summer weather even came back for us.

This is the first of the solar powered integral blinds going in.

We have at long last found a wood effect porcelain tile in the colour we like, but also a manufacturer that can make a proper stair tile.

We are tiling the whole of the ground floor. Using a patterned tile in the utility, wood effect throughout the kitchen, lounge, bedrooms and entrance hall. In the entrance hall we will have the tiles laid in a herringbone pattern to define this area and add a bit of interest.

We still nee to choose the tiles for the bathrooms.

That's it for now, until next time......

Stay safe X
