It's, all about that roof....

I have to say one of my favourite's at the moment is the entrance hall and the staircase (well the half that's built!). Even from upstairs it's going to be a stunner as it will be framed by a full height wall on the left and then open to hand rail height on the other two sides letting the light from this 3 metre high window flood in.

Two large windows peep into what will be the study area and the dormers will be dressed in hung slate, topped off with a soffit of cedar wood and crowned with a matt black facia to match the matt black window frames.

This is a shot of the upstairs lounge and balcony before we started to form the walls. We haven't lost the views and you just have to step onto the balcony to see an amazing 180 view of the Camel Estuary.

The last three weeks have definitely been "all about the roof" and here it is coming together piece by piece. Our carpenters Will and Adrian have done a fantastic job. it's almost a shame to cover it up, as it really is beautiful to look at and a real example of craftsmanship. Roofs just don't get built like this any more.

Our other "project" activities over the last 3 weeks has been sourcing the cedar for the soffits. It doesn't look much here, but once it is cut and treated it will look fabulous.

Those of you that have been with us since the beginning may notice that the fire looks different. Well you would be right. Originally we were going to have a double sided fire dividing the study and lounge area. As always happens when you are creating new rooms, once you get to stand in them you can immediately tell if something won't work as well as you originally imagined it would in your head. We very quickly realised that the original fire position would not enable us to have uninterrupted sight of the amazing views while watching tv or working in the study. Moving the fire against the right hand wall, as you come up the stairs, allowed us to go for a bigger fire, the breast will be about 1500/5ft across, so should be able to take decent sized tv. We chose a three sided fire so we can still achieve the wow of being able to see it as you come up the stairs or when you are sitting in the study.

In preparation for the stonemasons coming back to do the stone work to the front of the garage and surrounding walls we have sourced some Bee houses which Ben our stonemason will place in the stonework so that the Bees can rest after all their busy buzzing.

A friend of ours step son very kindly took some drone shots of the build. Here are a few of the best ones.

A very misty shot taken by our neighbours.

Tim got very excited when the boys put the foundations in for the front elevation of the garage. Unfortunately, nothing else has happened since as the roof has been the focus. It won't be long, but he's getting a bit impatient now.

The very last bits of steel arrived to hold the glass side windows and bifold doors that will lead from the dining room into the back garden.

The roof for the open porch over the back entrance door. It was amazing how these bits have started to transform the look of the back of the house.

Getting ready for the windows to arrive. The kitchen sliding doors, three very large velux windows in Bedroom 4 and Tim trying out the Velux in Bed 4's ensuite for size.

And last, but definitely not least, my first interior purchase, this beautiful stone bath in a matt finish. It will contrast so nicely with polished Kashmir marble effect tiles and classic chrome finish on the taps etc.

Well, that's it for now. Have a fabulous August bank holiday weekend everyone and lets hope the weather improves enough for a BBQ or two.

Until next time, stay safe X
